It’s not what I thought it would be. This little thing called life. It’s not like I planned. Not at all. Not even a little bit.
I used to wait for milestones. Those life events where everything would change and everything would be right with the world.
You know like: Double digits—what was the benefit there? Ummm two numbers instead of one.
Thirteen. Because suddenly I could… umm? What? Nothing changed. We didn’t even have a PG-13 rating. So? Nothing.
Sixteen. Driving. Now that was pretty good. But then comes responsibility of car ownership, insurance, gas…a job.
Eighteen. Well, because you’re an adult. You can vote. And be done with high school.
That’s when I figured all the good stuff would start happening. Not all at once mind you, but with regular progression.
Graduate college.
Start my career.
Buy a new car.
Get married.
Buy a house.
Birth a couple of kids.
Adopt a dog…
Yep. There were all sorts of plans and timelines, but let’s save all the gory details for another time. Suffice it to say not one of those things happened as planned.
Don’t get me wrong.
It’s not bad. There has been good and bad.
But none of it happened as planned.
Life keeps throwing obstacles in the way. Causing me to dodge and turn, or fall right off the path.
This has been one of those years. This time the path moved right out from under me. But each day I am reminded: “This is the day the LORD has made.”
I will rejoice and be glad in it.
